Dr. Maria Pappas (female) is an Associate Professor in Entomology and Acarology at the Department of Agricultural Development and member of the Laboratory of Agricultural Entomology and Zoology at Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH). She has a first degree in Agricultural Sciences (Crop Protection) and a PhD in Entomology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). She has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Freie Universitat Berlin (Germany) and the University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands) on topics related to plant-herbivore interactions. In 2014 she was awarded a prestigious Fulbright Award to perform research at the University of California, Riverside. Her main research interests are in ecology of arthropods (pests and biocontrol agents) and in plant-herbivore interactions. She is the vice-president of the Hellenic Entomological Society. Her current work is focused on biological control and tritrophic interactions between arthropods, plants and microbes. She has published 35 papers in leading scientific journal in the fields of entomology, biological control and plant science, an h-index of 16 (Scopus) (Google Scholar=20) and >600 citations on topics related to herbivore-plant interactions, integrated pest management and biological control. She has coordinated and/or participated in 10 projects funded by the EU, International and national bodies (PRIMA, H2020-MSCA, COST, DAAD, GSRT-Greece, Greek Ministry of Education, Onassis Foundation) and 35 projects funded by agro- and biocontrol industries. She is member of the editorial board of Frontiers in Plant Science, Bulletin of Entomological Research, Landscape Ecology, Frontiers in Ecology & Evolution and Applied Entomology & Zoology, Journal of Economic Entomology, Ecological Solutions and Evidence.
